The Yes team has blocked the No camp from holding rallies in key venues in Nairobi by booking the venues in advance for the final two campaign days before the referendum on August 4th.
The YES team has booked the historic Kamukunji grounds, Uhuru Park and City stadium on both August 1st and 2nd.Campaigning over the new law officially ends on August 2nd.The booking throws into disarray a huge prayer meeting that was set for Uhuru park on Sunday August 1st to mark the climax of their campaign. The No team’s other option would be Nyayo stadium but the venue is booked for the upcoming African Athletics champion. Tom Namwamba head of the No secretariat said that they would be forced to either bring forward the rallies to July31st or use another venue like Kasarani sports Complex. However Kasarani is not popular with the masses since it is about 20km away from the city center.
“YES is in total panic, their plan is to lock us out of the city to show that we do not have support here. With or Without Uhuru park we will still show that we have the numbers. Our people are ready to trek to Kasarani from Embakasi.”Tom said.
