The much awaited cabinet is finally here. The full list is here.
Now PNU seems to have worried about staying in power rather than serving the Kenyan people.ODM can put a smile in their faces after acquiring 5 key ministries which directly involve development of the country. These are :
1.ministry of roads - kipkalya kones
2.ministry of local government - musalia mudavadi
3.ministry of agriculture - william ruto
4.ministry of lands - james orengo
5.ministry of tourism. - najib balala
It now means that ODM controls ministries which deal with 2 of the biggest earners to the kenyan economy.agriculture and tourism.
The roads ministry which is usually a hotbed for corruption through sleazy tenders to incompetent road contractors is now headed by kipkalya kones from the odm camp. But perhaps the most sensitive ministry odm has acquired is lands ministry.with the election violence mainly dealing with land allocation,it will be intresting to see how james orengo will deal with land issues affecting the idp's who are mainly from kibaki's kikuyu tribe.
Land grabbing which is the norm in most kenyan provinces might be on a rapid decline if james orengo decides to act seriously on land grabbers.
What is interesting in the new cabinet list is that pnu decided to settle for positions that will work to ensure their grip on power.it seems pnu was not interested in giving up any of the key power ministries for the sake of development oriented ministries. Looking at key ministries for pnu,
1.minister for internal security and provincial adminstration: prof george saitoti
2.minister for defence - yusuf haji
3.minister for justice and constitutional affairs: - martha karua
4.minister for finance: amos kimunya
5.minister for foreign affairs: moses wetangu’la
This has to be a very bad tactical approach for PNU.Any positive developments infrastructure-wise will be a score for odm come 2012 elections. If farmers are able to get cheap fertilizers and incentives, coupled with good prices and loans, the agriculture sector will boom.and this will be attributed to odm. Better roads and massive upgrading of the roads system will also be attributed to odm, even though most of the current projects were started by the pnu government!
Another flag for odm is the local governemt held by musalia mudavadi.the ministry is in charge of all local authorities, which wield plenty of influence in matters local infrastructure and governance. These range from street lighting, road construction, maintenance and repair, regulation of trade and commerce in their jurisdiction, collection of cess and other levies, issuance of trade licences and permits and the general order through by-laws.
A booming tourism industry will also be a green light for odm.players in the industry will have better confidence to work with an odm government.the local people will also feel the effects of a booming tourism industry if the trickle effect is properly coordinated. Though pnu has control over the finance ministry, they still have to seek permission from parliament for any spending on ministries.odm can easily defeat the budget incase of skewed allocation of funds to certain ministries.
But all-in-all the 40 member cabinet will cost the kenyan economy 2 billion.

Sad that you're only concerned with who has what seat instead of who is the best for the job that will help Kenya. Politicians make "tactical" moves while we all suffer?
Still wallowing in anti-PNU slogans i see...why not write 'New Cabinet: ODM Bags Key Mwananchi Ministries'? Then we see whether really ODM had mwananchi at heart or their talk was just hot air...lets see whether they get down to business or go back to 'domo domo' business
Are you serious when you say 'Now PNU seems to have worried about staying in power rather than serving the Kenyan people'. What about ministry of education, energy, environment, communication, public health and sanitation, gender & children affairs?...have you thought about these ministries?????
